Yup, you read that right. British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden are number on the British Billboard album charts right now with the release of this “tactful and strategic” album Senjutsu.
And this just in as I started writing this a week ago; as of yesterday, September 13, Maiden has entered the American Billboard charts the highest they have over their 4 decade career. Senjutsu entered at #3.
Below them are Drake, Ed Sheeran and everyone else so that must give you some of the gravity of this release for the eternal band from the UK.
With 16 other studio albums to there credit including some of my personal favorites like Piece of Mind and The Number of the Beast, this 2021 release of Maiden is as heavy, articulate, and clever as ever.
This album will become a fan favorite for many and after listening to the cut below you will understand why.
On a different topic of sorts; I can’t believe how after battling and winning the fight against throat cancer, that vocalist Bruce Dickinson and his singing strength keeps getting better.
On songs like The Parchment or The Time Machine you can here is robust tenure voice carrying notes 10 seconds long which is a trademark of the band.
On one of my favorite past tunes, Hallowed Be Thy Name, I still get goosebumps hearing Bruce hang on to “running lowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww” It lasts over 10 seconds.
Anyway, aside from this, the album is very progressive and issued in trademark style coming in at over 80 minutes of triple guitars, running bass and insane drumming..
A normal trademark of the band still applies with Steve Harris writing a strong majority of the songs, but Bruce lends his pen on three and Janick Gers and Adrian Smith also contribute.
It’s really hard to sum up a 88 minute long rock opera of sorts so to be clear, this is definitely new and classic Iron Maiden and they have cranked things to ELEVEN on this one.
If you’re training for a marathon or the wife has sent you out for an endless day of errands; plug this baby in and before you know it you will be home and at the finish line with a big grin on your face.
Particular tracks to lookout for in my opinion and millions of others is the Darkest Hour and The Writing on the Wall which to me has a unique kind of heavy metal Steve Early Copperhead Road kind of vibe.
