Equine In Distress ?

Nope; it turns out that I was. I was waiting in the car yesterday to go to the Soo for some groceries and run some errands when out of the corner of my eye I see a horse…..and an 1800’s model black carriage. No this can’t be I thought and cranked my whole body to the right. What?

So I got out of the car and started walking towards this mirage. Wait a minute it’s not a bloody mirage….there’s actually a black horse and black carriage at the back of the Credit Union parking lot against the trees.

I crept closer wondering what was going on and could see there was nobody in the carriage, so I am thinking this horse got loose but no; he’s actually tethered to a tree. At this point I start talking to a lady in the parking lot about what could possibly be going on.

It only dawned on me when she calmly approached and said the owner was probably in the grocery store or bank…..and then WHAM ! it all made sense.

I have seen the menonites on the Island going down the road with their horse and buggies but didn’t connect the dots as the beautiful equine happened to be stationary.

Anyway, I am happy to have experienced this little moment and am happy to say as I got back in the car I witnessed the Black Beauty galloping up Gore St.

Greyhounds Open Season Tonight Against North Bay

Another season of Soo Greyhound hockey is upon us friends. Tonight the Dogs host North Bay at the Memorial Gardens in the Soo.

I will be dressed in my Greyhounds jersey and drinking out of my Greyhounds mug as I watch the action on the CHL network. The package works out to about $2 a game. Unreal for sure. The Single League Season Package is $119.99 + tip, and grants you access to not only all 68 games of your favorite team but all of the other teams in the said league (OHL). Here is the link CHL TV Greyhounds if driving to the game after a long day at work is hit and miss for you…..plus you save about $20 per game if you are an adult and more if you indulge at the canteen.

Anyway with the news of forward Owen Allard missing significant time due to injury I believe Kyle Raftis made a move quicker than he wanted to but in the end he lucked out/in on an overage that was placed on waivers.

Kyle snagged up seasoned forward Mark Duarte who brings a lot of size and experience. As a member of the championship Hamilton Bulldogs last year he accumulated 24 points in 53 games and played in 17 playoff games. A player like this will be great to settle the young kids down and put things in perspective. Ryan Thompson and Kalvyn Watson fill the other two OA spots.

Tonight I am excited like you wouldn’t believe and look forward to a great season. I love reading Peter Ruiccis’ columns and we are both on the same page figuring that Charlie Schenkel will be in between the pipes tonight.
