Hounds Improving But Not Because of Powerplay

The Soo Greyhounds were slow out of the gate as I was as well. This is my first article of the season but there will be many more.

The Hounds have lost quite a bit of firepower from last year and have a young and inexperienced team so the slow start was to be expected.

What was not expected was that goalie Landon Miller has struggled early on his a couple of starts but today he turned things around for his first win of the season against the Sarnia Sting….winning 5-4 in a shootout.

What also was not expected is the embarrassing powerful the Soo has so far. With the man advantage the Hounds have only one goal in about 30 tries… Correct me if I am wrong but it looks like Brady Martin has our only goal on the PP.

I don’t recall the Hounds ever have a PP that low after 10 games so whoever is in charge of that dept needs to do some work with the boys. Pull the old Dale Hunter and throw 4 or 5 forwards on the ice but when you have an extra body….you’re stats should be higher than what they are now.

As I said I am late starting out but I will write more in the coming days and weeks.

Owen Allard is still an unknown as He is in Tucson and injured and Brodie McConnell-Barker appears to be close to returning.

I think when Brodie gets back the PP will start to level out. If Owen sticks with Tucson the young guns will get more ice time.

Brady Martin has proven to be the player I saw coming into His own near the end of last season and I expect He will be one of the Hounds top point getters …..if not the leader on the team.

Charlie Schenkle has  proven to be one of the reasons for the Hounds success over the past few years and I hope He sticks with the team all year.

But we know the trend…….if you have someone that could put another team over the top for a championship and you are not championship material…..the trend is to move that player if they are in the their last year and get some future talent.

Anyway…

Go Hounds Go
