About a week ago Richie Faulkner suffered an aortic aneurysm during a show and was rushed to hospital in a life threatening condition.<\/p>\n

I received this update and good news moments ago:<\/p>\n

We have an update on Richie \u2013 see below in Richie\u2019s own words\u2026.<\/p>\n

Maniacs\u2026<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve always been grateful for the opportunities I\u2019ve been presented with.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always considered myself THE most fortunate man ever – to be able to play my favourite music – with my favourite band – to my favourite people around the world\u2026<\/p>\n

Today just being able to type this to you all is the biggest gift of all\u2026<\/p>\n

As I watch footage from the Louder Than Life Festival in Kentucky, I can see in my face the confusion and anguish I was feeling whilst playing \u2018Painkiller\u2019 as my aorta ruptured and started to spill blood into my chest cavity\u2026.<\/p>\n

I was having what my doctor called an aortic aneurysm and complete aortic dissection.\"\"<\/p>\n

From what I\u2019ve been told by my surgeon, people with this don\u2019t usually make it to the hospital alive\u2026..<\/p>\n

I was taken to nearby Rudd Heart & Lung Center and quickly went into what turned out to be a 10 \u00bd hour emergency open heart surgery.<\/p>\n

Five parts of my chest were replaced with mechanical components\u2026..I\u2019m literally made of metal now\u2026.<\/p>\n

It could have all ended so differently \u2013 we only had an hours set that night due to Metallica\u2019s performance after us \u2013 and it does cross my mind if it was a full set, would I have played until total collapse\u2026? If it hadn\u2019t happened in such a high adrenaline situation would my body have been able to keep going long enough to reach the hospital\u2026?<\/p>\n

The amazing Heart & Lung Center was 4 miles away from the gig site \u2013 if it had been further away\u2026\u2026..<\/p>\n

We can always drive ourselves crazy with these things but I\u2019m still alive thankfully.\u00a0 Whatever the circumstances, when watching that footage, the truth is, knowing what I know now, I see a dying man\u2026..<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been moved to tears and humbled by friends, family, my fantastic band, crew and management and also you guys sending me videos and messages of love and support during the last week \u2013 I thank you all so much and although I have a recovery road ahead of me, as soon as I\u2019m able to get up and running again, you\u2019ll be the first to know and we\u2019ll get back out there delivering the goods for you all\u2026.!<\/p>\n

One last thing maniacs, this came totally out of the blue for me \u2013 no history of a bad heart, no clogged arteries etc\u2026my point is I don\u2019t even have high cholesterol and this could\u2019ve been the end for me.\u00a0 If you can get yourselves checked \u2013 do it for me please\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n
