The Greyhounds did what they needed to do; and that was win the games that they were supposed to not have a problem with if they played their game.
With Saturday nights 7-4 romp over the Kitchener Rangers and the 6 points from the sweep the Hounds are still only one point up on Windsor who has 3 games in hand. In the Conference the Hounds are also now in a possibility of catching Flint who leads the West Division with 54 points and since the Hounds play Flint 3 more times it could get really interesting. The Conference is very tight because as usual London is still in the thick of things with 68 points but also have played three less games than the Hounds and Firebirds.
Anyway the big guns came through on Saturday with Rory Kerins, Cole McKay, Tye Kartye, and Ryan O’Rourke each picking up 3 points. Tyler Savard and rookie Justin Cloutier picked up the other goals.
Hounds goalie Sammy Ivanov played very strong for someone who hasn’t seen much action in the past couple of months.
Scoring for the Rangers were Francesco Pinelli, Jacob LeBlanc, and Carson Rehkoph with 2 of his own.
It was obvious that Rangers coach Mike McKenzie wasn’t happy with the officiating and he did what most coaches dare not do these days and question the officiating or league in the press. His comments were very tame as he was quoted as saying the game was a ““extremely poorly officiated game, probably both ways at times,”. There used to be days when that was nothing; but in this day and age simply being critical is not allowed and they bring repercussions. Fines and suspensions are possible in these circumstances but let’s hope for the sake of sanity that nothing of this comes to pass.
When two kids can literally drop their gloves and beat the sh*t out of each other and it only results in a 5 minute penalty; you’d think that soft comments that were his “opinion” should not be out of bounds but unfortunately these days they are.
Hounds return to action with a three game road trip starting this Wed in Sarnia, followed by a must win if they want to gain on Flint who they play at the Dort Financial Center on Friday night before rounding out the trip on Saturday in Saginaw.
