You can’t ask for anything more. The Hounds were fast, they generated shots and scoring chances, peppered the Firebirds netminder, were disciplined, sacrificed their bodies and were resilient until the final buzzer.
The Hounds got shafted on the scoreboard and Flint can only thank a couple of power plays and the goaltending of Luke Cavallin.
Jack Thompson is a leader out there and showed it in the 3rd period with 3 points. I also liked the speed and puck handling finesse of Robert Calisti as well as the calm demeanor of Ryan O’Rourke and some really smart plays including shot blocking and positioning.
If you have read my articles this year you will know that at times Calisti and O’Rourke are involved (in my writing) and sometimes in a negative manner but this isn’t personal (heck they are just teenagers); it is just that I am passionate and call things as they are….just like my favorite writer of all time for the Hounds Peter Ruicci.
You see past and present, Peter doesn’t gloss over the negatives and praise and shout for his team; he is realistic and I think that by reading his columns over the years I kind of learned from him. A good writer writes from the heart and not write for praise and glory.
Anyway…I must include that Ivanov was just as good as any goaltender could have been and made some huge saves. The three that got by him were nearly impossible to save as it was target practice during the two penalty kills that burnt him.
I think Rourky was a liitle too passive but Ryan…that is the way you need to play….the edge….a little more bit but don’t draw any blood. This series needs to get nasty and some scrappy chat in front of LucA AND maybe a few whacks here AND THERe may draw a few penalties for us to capitalize on.
