Island Living IS !!….What it’s Cracked Up to Be

It has only been about two weeks, but since I made the decision to transition from city life to island life the benefits

have been immediate. After living 95% of my life in the Soo, I have decided to relocate and enjoy the sights, the sounds, the smells, and energy of living a slower………but much more enjoyable life.

Since I have been here I have cycled nearly 100km in 3 outings and walked just about the same. In the midst of unpacking and setting up shop I have been shocked by the charm and almost touristy (Charlevoix/Petoskey Mi) aspects that this tight little community has to offer.

While I have been looking for Floyds Barber Shop (older generation will get that reference) I have been noticing that people stop and talk to each other on the streets. This is foreign from the planet I just left where people have become detached and antisocial. You could be physical neighbors with someone for ten years and never find out their names. It is tragic.

Over the past few days I have started to immerse myself into the coffee culture I love such as hanging out at The Wharf and chatting with the staff and owners about things around here. If you have not been there yet; you should really check it out. They are trying to juggle hours to meet the demand of the locals and it is an ongoing process. I like the charm it has and the cozy vibe.

I also biked across to the Tilton Hilton where the coffee was good and the view was great. I was told by some residents that the waters just off the marina had been voted among the best in the world for sailing and I don’t doubt it one bit.

I am excited to be here and so many of the people that follow the Soo Greyhounds and my articles happen to live out here so I am hoping to get a group going in Sept to meet at a local establishment and have some food and watch the game on the big screen tv and chat, as it is sometimes tough to get to the Soo if the weather is bad or economy is tanking….as in Fuel Tank-ing and gas prices.

I will approach one of the local restaurants to see if they would be up for that idea and what we could do to make it happen and profitable.

Living out here has the benefits of peace and quiet but we still need our social atmosphere….am I right ? Go Hounds Go !!!

Anyway, before I start to ramble on I will leave it here and you can bet your last dollar that you will see me in print on a frequent basis once I get settled in.
